Abstract
The Collection of Television Technology and Design is maintained by the UCLA Film, Television, and Radio Archives to ensure the preservation of historically significant television equipment and related documentation. The goal of the University of California Collection is to illustrate the evolution of both home receivers and broadcasting hardware. The effort was initiated when it was realized that no major institution was actively identifying, locating, acquiring, and exhibiting the major milestones of the development of television technology. A brief investigation uncovered that many significant items had been lost or destroyed, and tragically, a number of collections and exhibitions previously supported by major corporations had been disbanded.
