Abstract
Many high-fidelity consumer audio systems include graphic equalizers to control the overall frequency response. This affords the user added flexibility in compensating for shortcomings in his equipment and listening environment. Graphic equalizers, whereas used in the past by only audiophiles, have now become so commonplace that they are even included in some automotive receivers and modular component stereos. Developing in parallel with this added sophistication is the increasing use of microprocessors to control consumer audio equipment. Two well-known applications are synthesized receivers and digital audio disc players. We can only expect to see more complexity and the expanded use of microprocessors in audio equipment in the future.
