Abstract :
An innovative compensation scheme that allows three-phase AC transmission lines to be operated with one phase open, on a permanent basis, has been developed. Generally, the detrimental effects associated with the high levels of negative and zero sequence currents, generated during the single-pole opening (SPO) condition, prelude permanent operation of a line in only two phases. The compensation strategy (also referred to as selective sequence filtering) confines the undesired sequence components of the current, produced during an SPO condition, to flow in a restricted region of the system
