Abstract
In this letter, a loop antenna for multiband handset applications is proposed and investigated. The ground clearance required for the proposed antenna structure is relatively small in comparison to that of a conventional planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) or a monopole with an antenna height of 0.013λo. The specific antenna geometry favors current large-display smartphones. The antenna radiates at three different modes, which cover GSM850/900/1800/1900/UMTS. An additional short on the loop controls high-frequency resonances.
