Abstract
This paper describes the effect of source inductance on the behavior of a dc separately excited motor with thyristor controlled, rectified, single-phase supply. Two methods of solving the analytical aspect of the problem are given. One of these is exact but complicated, involving a large computer time, while the other gives an approximate result but is straightforward to achieve. Comparison between the two methods shows that the approximate result is reasonable, even under bad supply conditions, for all load conditions, if the armature current is continuous. If the ratio of armature inductance to supply inductance is small, one has to use the exact solution for accurate results.
