Abstract
This short note formulates an
-level hierarchical system structure, with the lower level subsystems being faster than the one above. In the context of linear time-invariant systems and the regulator problem a near-optimal solution is found using results in singular perturbation theory. An example from power systems is given, and computational and conceptual advantages of the method are indicated.
