Abstract
During 1989 a new course on computer concepts was approved at the University of South Africa. It was decided to use a new approach to the teaching-at-a-distance education environment by introducing a multimedia teaching package for this course on computer concepts for computer users. The contents of the course and the reasons for having such a course are described in the article, together with the tutorial package for the course, the administrative arrangements made for the presentation of the course and a presentation of the authors´ findings during the first year of operation of the course
