Abstract
The use of SF/sub 6/ for switching is described, and the effects of switching transients are examined. Current interruption with SF/sub 6/ is then discussed, covering the current interruption process, extreme operating conditions for high-voltage breakers, SF/sub 6/ puffer breakers, energy transfer from an arc in SF/sub 6/, dielectric recovery, and breaker operation.<>
