Abstract
An attempt is made in this note to evaluate the chracteristic equation of a Hamiltonian matrix arising in optimal control studies of linear diffusion equations via a space discretization procedure. The need of determining the same is discussed. Computation of characteristic vectors of this matrix is also addressed in this note.
