Abstract :
A simple method for bidimensional position readout of Parallel Plate Avalanche counters (PPAC) has been developed, using the induced charge technique. A prototype has been operated with low energy protons and ¿-particles, at a pressure range of 10-60 torr of isobutane. An accuracy better than 0.5 mm (FWHM) and a time resolution of 140 ps (FWHM) have been measured with 5.5 MeV ¿-particles. The narrow spatial distribution of the cathode induced charges may lead to an efficient multiparticle detection.
