Abstract
This paper considers the problem of locating a radiating source from range-difference observations. This specific source localization problem has received significant attention for at least 20 years, and several solutions have been proposed to solve it either approximately or exactly. However, some of these solutions have not been described clearly, and confusions seem to persist. This paper aims to clarify and streamline the most successful solutions. It introduces a new closed-form approximate solution, and briefly comments on the related problem of source localization from energy or range measurements
