    Welcome to this Special Issue of the Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CJECE), which presents some of the top papers (in extended form) from the Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE) held in Regina, Saskatchewan, May 5–8, 2013. This conference brought a number of firsts to the CCECE series of conferences and was a highly successful IEEE Canada event.
