Abstract
A description and analysis of a clamped series inverter are presented. A generalized Fourier series method is developed to describe the steady-state behavior of the inverter in both discontinuous and continuous modes of operation. A transient analysis is also presented to describe its behaviour in both modes. The maximum flux requirement of the matching transformer is determined, and a starting method for the inverter is presented in order to obtain the reduced flux level of the transformer. The performance curves of the inverter under a wide range of operating conditions are presented. All the theoretical results obtained have been experimentally verified.<>
