  • Abstract
    Isolated genetic material can be transferred into a host cell through its membrane by the application of an appropriate electrical impulse to the cell. The authors describe a three-stage impulse generator designed to transfect viral genes into human blood cells, to aid scientists in their research into blood cancers by immortalizing the cells. Trials on samples from a terminal cancer patient resulted in successful electroporation of an antibiotic-resistant gene.<>
