Abstract :
A concave grating design is presented that is suitable for a tunable WDM demultiplexer. Tuning is achieved by displacing the input fiber along the edge of the device. The tuning feature can be used to compensate for inevitable variations in wafer fabrication or to shift the set of channel wavelengths to match a particular WDM transmitter. An effective index error of about one percent can easily be accommodated.
