Abstract
The influence of node distribution on the convergence of the point-matching technique is examined through example solutions of several diffraction problems. The adaptive collocation of nodes is proposed for two-dimensional diffraction and scattering problems. For the regions with smooth boundaries this technique provides rapid convergence of the computational process. The relation between the adaptive nodes distribution and the zeros of the Szegö polynomials is derived
