Abstract
In positron emission computerized tomography, the detector to detector spacing ultimately determines the spatial resolution of the system. Since the total linear attenuation coefficient for Bismuth Germanate is three times higher than that for Sodium Iodide, the use of Bismuth Germanate should allow the use of narrower crystals. We measured the effect of reducing the dimensions of a Bismuth Germanate crystal on the photopeak fraction and on energy resolution.
