Abstract :
Nonutility generation (NUG) has become a major consideration in long-range resource planning for NEPOOL (New England Power Pool). Current estimates for total capacity by the year 2000 are as high as 2600 MW. NUG could be as much as 5-10% of the total NEPOOL capacity and 20-40% of resource additions in the 1990s. The amount and timing of NUG are critical inputs to NEPOOL´s long-range resource planning. NUG planning data for a large number of relatively small units are difficult for NEP to obtain second-hand through the contracting utilities. Existing data are sparse, but are being improved by continued review and compilation. Forecasting techniques and planning approaches are being studied to define the best approach from a power-pool perspective
