  • Abstract
Kerr microscopy was used to observe the domain structure of Permalloy films that have the same shape as the pole pieces commonly employed in thin-film recording heads. These pole pieces were deposited on thin glass slides, making it possible to observe the domains from both the top and the bottom of the film. It was found that the domain configuration can be quite different on the two surfaces when strain-induced anisotropy is present
