Abstract
From the working environment and community nuisance aspects, the sound levels in power plants are high enough to warrant noise control measures. In many cases they are required by law. Since retrofit measures are often expensive, inconvenient, and sometimes impractical, noise control features should be incorporated in the initial design. Features such as topography of the plant site, general arrangement of equipment and plant architecture could be effectively used for control of noise in addition to specifying low noise machinery.
