Abstract :
From the early 1970s, developers at Bolt Beranek and Newman continued BBN´s record for innovative breakthroughs in networked systems. In this article the author review highlights of BBN´s history in the area of distributed computing from several different perspectives: early investigations into how to make use of and program the emerging interhost communication capability, distributed systems infrastructure (middleware), and network-centric applications that utilized the emerging distributed systems capabilities in new and innovative ways.
