Abstract :
The relation between the Rayleigh scattering loss and the Laplacian mode-field-half-width (MFHW) is derived. It is shown that not only the Rayleigh scattering loss but also the transverse offset loss, the angular misalignment loss, and the microbending loss will be small if the field distribution is similar to an elliptic-Gaussian distribution
