Abstract
This paper presents an introduction to local area communication networks and discusses the local area networks that are particularly suitable for manufacturing and office systems. The delay and throughput performance of these networks is analyzed. The networks are then compared with respect to their performance on such issues as reliability, ability to carry multiple traffic types, throughput, and delay.
