Abstract :
The built environment is entering a period of great evolution, enabled by the adoption of building information modeling (BIM), the increased use of technologies in digital asset management, and the emergence of smart assets and the Internet of Things (IoT). This article considers the impact of these developments on security and privacy, and outlines the rationale for adopting a broader approach to cybersecurity than the confidentiality, integrity, and availability triad that´s used by the information assurance community. It considers the impact of using new, predominantly wireless technologies in the built environment and discusses the need for security and privacy improvements.
