Abstract :
Proton Induced X-Ray Emission (PIXE) has been used in trace element analysis of human hair. Samples were charred, mixed with graphite spiked with yttrium (as an internal standard) pressed into pellets and bombarded with a 2.5 MeV proton beam. Concentrations of some twenty elements have been determined. The use of the method to monitor for Pb and As exposure, as well as some miscellaneous element exposures is discussed.
