Abstract
Adaptive equalization is used to ensure that the outage probability is less than 10-3 for a target bit error rate of 10-4 in buildings with RMS delay spread of up to 100 ns. A time-division multiple-access system with four-level quadrature amplitude modulation point-to-point links strikes the right balance between flexibility and complexity. It is shown that such a system can support rates of at least 1 Mb/s
