Abstract :
Based on the successive approximation of message waveforms, a multidigit ΔM system, incorporating individual optimised ΔM stages, has been developed. It is shown that the coding efficiency of this system is better than that of the conventional PCM for the same information rates, and further improvements are obtained by the use of simple instantaneous compandors and suitable phase compensation.
