Abstract :
Now that manufacturing is all about variability and customisation, product data management´s claim to be the business-critical new technology for manufacturers is hard to refute. The author discusses the role of product management (PDM) systems in modern manufacturing and the strengths of PDM. The essential elements of automated PDM are discussed. The use of PDM by Short Brothers in Belfast is given as an example
