Abstract
The authors present an exact design method of a microwave power source suitable for microwave integrated circuits. It is composed of a two-terminal active element and a varactor frequency multiplier. Large-signal nonlinearities of the active element and the varactor are taken into account in the analysis. A simple method to determine the optimum load for the oscillator using a dynamic conductance is given. Design charts for the multiplier are presented for the case of a charge-controlled mode doubler with an abrupt junction diode.
