Abstract
Recent observations of current instabilities in ntype germanium at low temperatures suggest that a differential negative resistance exists. This letter shows that electron transfer from <111> minima to <100> minima can form the basic mechanism for the negative differential resistance, orientation and uniaxial-stress dependence arising primarily from equivalent intervalley transfer between <111> minima.
