  • Abstract
    Self-sustained discharges, similar in mechanism to hollow-cathode discharges, have been seen at mercury vapour pressures down to 1 mtorr if initial ionisation is produced from an auxiliary discharge. Measurements of microwave emission point to a beam-plasma interaction mechanism.
