Abstract :
The impact of the Clean Air Act on the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is discussed and a Phase I system-wide compliance strategy is described. A pilot study was commissioned by the TVA to explore system operation issues. The purpose of the study was to simulate the actual system operation for 1 month, July 1995, a high-load month when the system will be required to operate under the new Phase I regulations. The software tool used in this analysis is the ABB Wescouger Emission Program. Data required for this study are discussed. Costs and benefits of emission dispatch are discussed, and the impact on pumped-storage utilization is described. Lastly, the transaction-pricing philosophy is discussed.<>
