Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for the transient analysis of long lossy cables. The proposed model represents an improvement of the standard ladder network approximation of transmission lines for two reasons: First, the propagation delay time is preliminarily extracted so that the lossy phenomena are modeled as minimum delay lossy cable, and second, a model order reduction (MOR) is applied to the lossy line via the analytical calculation of poles and residues of the half-T ladder network approximating the delayless lossy cable. The combination of such two techniques allows us to achieve a significant reduction of the computational efforts in simulating long lossy cable while preserving the modeling accuracy. Numerical tests are performed that demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the proposed method
