Abstract
A new isosurface reconstruction scheme from a set of tomographic cross-sectional images is presented. The method, called shrink-wrapped isosurface (SWIS), surmounts the O(l)-adjacency limitation of the marching cubes algorithm by generalising the concept of isopoints (iso-density points). The coarse initial mesh is iteratively metamorphosed into the final isosurfaces by the shrink-wrapping process. Experiments prove SWIS to be very robust and efficient in isosurface reconstruction.
