Abstract
A method for modeling series capacitors protected by metal oxide varistors has been developed for calculations requiring linear impedances. Fault and stability programs can now be adapted to perform the previously infeasible calculations on circuits containing these non-linear protection devices. The model which is simple yet applicable to virtually any series capacitor installation has been incorporated into BPA´s fault and stability programs. This paper describes the development and use of this unique method.
