Abstract
The author addresses and summarizes some of the broader issues relating to electric vehicles including legislation, regulation, funding, infrastructure, niche markets, safety, and the near-term need for lead-acid batteries. The impact of low emission requirements is examined. The principle hazards associated with lead-acid batteries and the attendant liability issues are identified. Federal safety requirements are discussed in some detail.<>
