Abstract
The author discusses the use of electric power in both civil and military aircraft. In particular the author discusses engine starting using electrically driven compressors using squirrel cage motors. The advantages over other methods are discussed. The use of electric motor driven pumps for the hydraulic system is also discussed. The author then gives a brief history of the development of electric power in aircraft. The benefits of electric and electronic applications in aircraft are briefly mentioned
