Abstract
A method is described for the determination of the saturated stator reactances of turbogenerators from their dimensions and winding configuration, and from the magnetic properties of their stator and rotor cores. The method is based on an extension of the analysis presented in a previous paper for predicting the load characteristics of turbogenerators. Validation of the method is achieved by comparing practical test results for a 500 MW generator with those obtained from simulation. The stator reactances are dependent on the generator saturation condition, which in turn is determined by the generator terminal voltage and load. The paper describes the method of analysis used, and presents results which have practical significance in predicting the accurate steady-state performance of a turbogenerator.
