Abstract
An analysis of the brushless DC motor with a 120° inverter is presented. It is shown that the brushless DC motor-120° inverter system has several distinct operating modes. The status of the motor phase current in which the inverter transistors are not conducting (gated off) is used to classify the modes of operation. These modes are identified and their relationship to the speed and the advance in the firing angle is established
