Abstract
In the analytical design theory of linear control Systems, an integral-square-error performance index for transient signals and a mean-square-error performance index for stochastic signals are commonly used. It is possible to define a new performance index based on the correlation between the responses of two systems. The response of one of the systems can be regarded as the desired response. This system can be termed the reference system.
