Abstract
The principal design features of planar triode transmitting tubes are reviewed: ruggedness, low inductance leads, cathode area, electrode spacings and cathode emission requirements. A progress report is given on life improvement from a few hundred to a few thousand hours for mobile equipment and to many thousands of hours for less critical applications. Some details are given on cathode evaluation studies with particular emphasis on tube life.
