Abstract
A high-performance, custom monolithic charge-coupled device (CCD) is used as a key element in two Image Chamber Analyzers (ICA). The CAMAC ICA can operate either as a 4-channel unit with a maximum number of 320 sampling points per channel and a variable sampling rate of up to 50 MHz, or as a 2-channel unit with 640 samples and up to 100 MHz. Test results are presented. A description and a status report on the development of a 32/16-channel CCD-based FASTBUS ICA is offered in the last portion of the paper. The unit has features similar to that of the CAMAC unit, but offers much higher channel density, shorter conversion time, hit detecting capability and lower per-channel cost.
