  • Abstract
    A theoretical and experimental study has been made of the launching of the fundamental HE11 mode into glass-fibre optical waveguide from a focused linearly polarised laser beam. Efficiencies approaching 100% are possible in theory. A practical efficiency of about 50% has been achieved.
