Abstract :
The authors propose and demonstrate a new design method for a wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) system employing broad-band Raman amplification. Based on the proposed method, the noise/nonlinear performance can be improved by more than 1.7 dB for a 100-nm bandwidth WDM system by purely continuous-wave counterpumping.
