Abstract :
Spectral congestion and reduction of channel spacing are forcing a reappraisal of AM mobile radio systems. Impulsive noise may be dealt with by clipping or blanking, and the results of a computer simulation of audio processing are presented in order to demonstrate the likely advantage to be gained by these techniques. Conventional blanking is shown to be superior, with and without the presence of an adjacent-channel signal, but the improvement is limited to about 10 dB for the conditions taken.
