    The Shichman formula for numerical integration is shown to be A stable for all step ratios a. However, for a > 1+¿2 with a negative real eigenvalue K, there is an initial instability phenomenon whose presence precludes the use of this a range. The phenomenon is absent when a <1+¿2.
