  • Abstract
    The significant activity that has taken place in China on source coding is reviewed. This includes three of the most important source coding techniques used for speech compression-waveform coders, vocoders, and hybrid coders-and a number of techniques used to implement image compression. Two other areas of active communications research, channel coding and cryptography, are discussed.<>
