    The paper discusses the the effect of the collapse of the telecommunication market on the UK optoelectronics industry. A number of optoelectronics businesses have gone to the wall in the UK but there is still overcapacity. Consolidation or diversification are two of the options for UK optoelectronics companies as they face the future.
