  • Abstract
It is still unusual for employers to use business schools for the management training of professional engineers, `on-the-job¿¿ experience being the traditional approach. There should be proper emphasis on the correct development of management skills of engineers. A balanced programme of theory and practice has been shown to be very successful at Henley, The Management College. Henley´s Master of Business Administration degree programme is unique in that it is structured on a sandwich basis ¿¿ short periods of academic study are blended with work on practical projects carried out within the organisation from which course members are drawn. As a result, members can retain close links with their parent organisations, and there are real practical advantages for the organisation as project work is specially designed not only to sharpen the member´s intellect, but literally to put it to work for the benefit of the employer.
