Abstract :
The temperature distribution in a waveguide microwave load, which is formed by layers of dielectric material, is evaluated in terms of the input power. The process involves solution of the electromagnetic and heat-flow equations for the layered structure, and computation using finite-difference methods. TE10, TE20 and TE11 modes are considered. The thermal boundary conditions treated are insulating free convective cooling and forced convective cooling. The data used in the evaluation relate to measured physical properties of the dielectric layers. A representative selection of the cases evaluated has been studied experimentally.
